Telemark has plenty of forest in its lower parts, with moose, roe deer and red deer. Red deer have spread eastwards in recent decades and are hunted in more municipalities than before.
To the north and west lie Hardangervidda and other mountain areas with ptarmigan and wild reindeer. Wild reindeer hunting is managed by the reindeer board, and quotas vary from year to year.
