Innlandet has more forest and mountain than any other county. Moose hunting is a great tradition in its forests and valleys, with drives, baying dogs and leashed tracking dogs. Roe deer, red deer and beaver are found too, and forest grouse and hare are popular.
The mountains offer ptarmigan and wild reindeer. Much of the mountain land is state common land, where the local mountain boards sell hunting licences. Wild reindeer hunting is managed by the reindeer board for each area, and quotas vary from year to year. Parts of the south and east are within the wolf zone.
