Agder is heavily forested from the coast inland, with moose, roe deer and a growing red deer population. Many properties are small and hilly, and hunting with dogs is common.
The heaths to the north are one of the large wild reindeer areas of southern Norway, and good ptarmigan country. Wild reindeer hunting is managed by the reindeer board, and quotas vary.
