Buskerud stretches from the forests around Drammen and Ringerike, up through Hallingdal and Numedal to the high mountains. The valleys hold moose, roe deer and increasingly red deer.
The western mountains are ptarmigan country, and part of Hardangervidda lies in the county. Wild reindeer hunting is managed by the reindeer boards, and quotas vary. Much of the mountain land is private or jointly owned, and licences are sold by landowner associations and mountain boards.
