Nordland is known for ptarmigan hunting, across large mountain areas from the coast to the Swedish border. Moose are hunted in the valleys and forests, and there are red deer in the south.
Statskog manages much of the land and sells licences for small and big game. Much of the county is reindeer grazing land, and dogs must be kept away from grazing reindeer.
