The form after the hunting day is data that wildlife management builds its plans on.
Why it matters
How many animals are seen per hunter day, split into bulls, cows, calves and yearlings, is one of the most important measures of how the population is doing. In Norway the numbers are collected in the Cervid Register (Hjorteviltregisteret).
Record it the same day
Write the numbers down the same evening, while everyone remembers. The same cow seen from two stands is one cow — that is the hunt leader's judgement, not a sum.
Record days without sightings too. A day without animals is also a number.
In Veida
After the hunt, Veida suggests hunters and hours from who was on stand, with the day's sightings next to the form. The whole season can be downloaded as a file Norwegian Excel opens directly, ready to enter into the register.
