When the animal is not down

The Hunter's Handbook · Norsk

A wounded animal is the hunter's responsibility until it is found.

Right after the shot

Note where the animal stood, where it went and how it reacted. Tell the team at once.

Give the animal time before you follow, and do not trample the shot site — blood, hair and the track are what the search depends on.

The search

The hunter is obliged to start a search. Use a tracking dog when needed, and follow the municipality's rules for wounded big game.

In Veida

“Wounded animal” marks the shot site and direction on the map and alerts the whole team. The track you walk during the search is saved, and the case stays open until the animal is found or the search is ended.
